About us

The word MONTANUS comes from Latin and means "mountaineer" or "mountain". It refers to a place under the forest in a high part of Malá Morávka, where generations of people lived who connected their lives with the harsh conditions of the Jeseníky Mountains. The house and the whole place has its own story and long history. It began to be written as early as 1790, as evidenced by records in the Provincial Archive in Opava. At that time, it was a wooden residential building with a stable for a cow and a barn. However, the brick house with the existing floor plan was not built until 1905. People farmed here and made a living working with wood in the area.
However, the local German population from the area called the Sudetenland was displaced in 1945 and the property fell to the state. The cottage then served various trade unions for recreation, but without interest and a clear owner, the whole area fell into disrepair until 2012, when it was sold into the private hands of the current owners. Extensive reconstruction in 2013 aimed to preserve the original atmosphere of a mountain cottage on the ground floor with 21st century equipment and comfort. (Apartment Priessnitz). On the first floor, a completely new modern Kneipp Apartment was built in the attic space.

The names of the apartments refer to two famous men who used the healing power of water to heal people. Vincenz Priessnitz (1799-1851) made the Jeseníky Mountains famous, and Lázně Jeseník is now the site of his work. Sebastian Kneipp (1821 - 1897) applied a similar philosophy in the Alpine countries. Following this pattern, we built a small hydrotherapy complex "Lesní lázně" directly on the plot by the stream.
